PROFILE OF NNSS OJOName and Type of School.    The official name of the school is Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS) Ojo. The school is a co-educational school with boarding facilities for girls only. All boys are day students.

Vision of the School

To be the leading provider of qualitative all-round secondary education, taking care of the three demands of learning: cognitive, affective and psychomotor.

Date of Establishment.   NNSS Ojo is the first secondary school established by the Nigerian Navy in 1982.

Location.    NNSS Ojo is located in Navy Town, a Nigerian Navy Barracks in Oriade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Purpose of Establishment.     As the first NNSS, the primary role of the school is to provide qualitative education for secondary school aged children of serving and retired NN personnel, other services and civilians.

Leadership and Management. The school is managed by the School Management Committee, headed by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command. The day-to-day activities of the school are overseen by a Commandant who is assisted by a Deputy Commandant ( Executive Officer – XO) and 4 Vice Principals ( before now it was just 1 VP Academics) . The pioneer Commandant of the school was Commander EA Molokwu who retired as a Navy Captain. The current management team of the school is as follows:

Organisation.      NNSS Ojo is a relatively big school with a population of over 2000 students from JSS 1 to SSS 3. Each class is organised into 6 arms named after Nigerian Navy Ships (NNS). These are Agu, Ayam, Barama, Damisa, Ekpe and Ekun ( Siri was replaced by Barama) . The students are administered in 4 houses named after past Chiefs of the Naval Staff namely; Admirals JEA Wey, NB Soroh, MA Adelanwa and AA Aduwo.

School Activities.   NNSS Ojo prides itself as a centre of excellence offering comprehensive academic and non-academic development for secondary school aged children. If offers education in academic subjects in line with the National Basic Education curriculum which covers cognitive, affective and psychomotor development of students. In addition to curriculum-based activities, NNSS Ojo is an exciting school for students. It students engages all year round in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to broaden and enrich their learning experiences. These activities include the yearly Inter-House Sports Competition, Valedictory Service, Christmas Carol, Cultural Day and Career Week. These events are always memorable, not only to the students but to the entire school community. Furthermore, NNSS Ojo is a briefing and marking centre for WAEC and a pilot centre for the study of French Language. At the moment, the school is putting in every effort to secure its approval as a Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer Base Test Centre.
